The Concept of Health Maintenance
Most Americans have trouble with the concept of health maintenance, but it is not their fault!
At my San Diego Chiropractic Center I notice that most of my new patients also have an altered view of health maintenance as well.
Current Western Medicine can’t quite grasp health maintenance either. To most, health maintenance means going to your MD for routine physical exams with the hope that if trouble is brewing your doctor discovers it early and can begin treatment. This is the concept of health maintenance that the medical profession has taught us. THIS IS NOT HEALTH MAINTENANCE! It is sick care.
Health maintenance includes regular check-ups with your doctor but its roots lie in proactive steps that you, the patient, engage in to insure that you remain healthy.
Maintaining your health requires daily efforts that include healthy dietary choices, nutritional supplementation, exercising, stretching, getting adequate amounts of sleep, stress reduction whenever possible and other steps that help keep our bodies healthy and our minds clear.
Chiropractic care, unlike Western Medical care, was developed specifically with a health maintenance protocol in mind. While chiropractic treatment is very effective at relieving both chronic and acute forms of neck pain, pinched nerves, back pain and headaches, it truly excels as a preventative form of treatment. The phrase “an ounce of treatment is worth a pound of cure” suitably applies to maintenance based chiropractic care.
In today’s society our bodies have taken a backseat to our other concerns. We take our cars in for 30, 60 and 90 thousand mile service regardless of its performance – we run virus scans on our computers at regular intervals whether it is infected or not – yet when it comes to our bodies the typical person does little to maintain themselves with diet and exercise and only goes in for care when they are experiencing symptoms.
If you expect to live a long happy life, health has to be a big part of that. For more information on general health concerns please visit my website by Clicking Here.

Dr. Steve Jones
