Insanity: The 60 Day Challenge
The secret to long lasting health and fitness is diet and exercise. This is a fact.
In my San Diego Chiropractic center I try to make it a point to discuss the importance of proper diet and exercise with anyone who will listen (and rarely those who won’t!). A few years back I was introduced to Standard Process nutritional supplements and immediately began to experience the benefits of this company’s outstanding products. My assistant and I completed the Standard Process 21 day Purification Program with excellent results and we still employ much of that program in our daily nutrition plan.
As a result of the purification program I saw my blood pressure drop from borderline hypertensive at 139 / 89 to a more reasonable 128 / 85. Body weight has not really been an issue for me but I did lose about 20 pounds initially on this program and ended up putting about 10 pounds of that back on.
What I was missing from my health plan was consistent aerobic exercise. Running had gone by the wayside for years due to ankle and knee pain so my exercise plan included walking and some weight lifting.
I had been looking for some kind of structured exercise program but had discounted all of the ones that advertise on TV because of the stigma attached to items sold on TV infomercials. Then, by chance, Insanity – The 60 Day Challenge came into my possession from a friend. My assistant and I started it the same day and we were determined to get through it.
We are now 44 days into the 60 day Insanity program and going strong. I have never taken any kind of an aerobics class so this has been challenging. The Insanity program combines aerobics with plyometrics exercises that involve explosive muscular contractions intended to help you move you body in a quick and powerful way. It also burns gobs of calories.
At this point of the Insanity program I have not lost more than 5 pounds but my blood pressure has dropped into the 118 / 75 range and my 32 inch waist pants now require a belt to prevent me from adopting a gangster look. I must say that from an exercise standpoint, this type of exercise is what I have been missing. This program is not for everyone however, it involves high impact jumping movements and definitely places stress on your cardiovascular system. You can modify the exercises as needed but you should still be cautious about jumping into Insanity.
Anyway, being a chiropractor, I am convinced that chiropractic treatment is important in maintaining your health but diet and exercise are vitally important for your daily health maintenance. Even if the extremes of the Standard Process Purification Program and the Insanity program are not your speed, you should try hard to incorporate some diet and exercise into your daily routine – you will be much healthier for it!
