Insanity: Health and Chiropractic

So sixty days ago my assistant and I started the Insanity program from BeachBody.

Aside from a few little blips along the way and the occasional embarrassment of doing the routines in the front office of my San Diego chiropractic center, I think it delivered on what it promised.  In the end I improved substantially on all the Fit Tests that are performed at two week intervals, my blood pressure is much lower than it was in the beginning and I lost about 10 pounds.

The workouts remained challenging through the entire program but I never found them tedious.  Since this program does involve explosive movements and body weight exercises it did create a few physical problems for us.  I strained my shoulder in the second to last week of the program and had to modify / avoid / substitute some of the more stressful shoulder exercises with ones that I could do without further injuring myself.  This was no big deal – regardless of the changes I made I still managed to sweat what seemed like buckets during each workout – which was the goal I believe.

The question now is what is next now that Insanity is over?  The answer is simple – I had borrowed the Insanity I used this first time through so I will be purchasing it (used on Amazon for about 75% of the new cost) and going through the program again with some modifications.

Would I recommend Insanity to my patients?  Sure, but unless they were already in good shape and didn’t have any chronic neck pain, shoulder pain or back pain issues I would recommend modifications for some of the more stressful or high impact exercises that are performed in the Insanity program.

Yours in good health,

Dr. Steve Jones
