Foods that Make You Bloat
Do you get bloated after eating certain foods?
I recently read an article on the internet regarding bloating after meals – this is a problem that I experience intermittently and many of the patients of my San Diego chiropractic practice indicate as an ongoing problem on their new patient intake forms.
How your body responds to different foods is really dependent on your general state of health and of course what you are eating. The article that I read listed the top 10 foods that are likely to result in feeling bloated. That list was as follows:
1) Bread
2) Cold cuts and other cured meats
3) Pizza
4) Poultry
5) Soup
6) Fast Food
7) Cheese
8) Spaghetti and Pasta
9) Meatloaf and other meat dishes
10) Snack-potato chips, pretzels, etc.
Of course the common link between all of these foods is high sodium content – which even gets worse if you are one that likes to use table salt your food as well. As a general rule, I like to encourage my patients to avoid consuming foods containing impurities such as preservatives, food colorings and sodium. The easiest way to avoid excess sodium is to eat fresh whenever possible and try to avoid canned foods. If you do eat canned foods make sure that the sodium content is below 350 mg per serving and beware that even small cans often contain more than one serving.
This strategy will not only help you avoid the bloat but ditching the sodium laden food choices will make you healthier for your efforts.
Have a Great Day
