Our Style of Chiropractic Care

What you can expect

This page is intended to answer some of your questions about the specific type of chiropractic care you can expect from me when you visit my San Diego Chiropractic office.  As some of you know, the chiropractic care that you receive varies with the chiropractor who is providing the treatment.  Although many chiropractors learn the same basic techniques during their training, each chiropractor provides different treatment based on their own philsophy regarding how the human body recovers from injury.

At my office I like to do manual chiropractic adjustments that adhere to the Palmer Methods of chiropractic.  What that means for you as my patient is that while I like to do manual adjustments with my hands that produce "popping" sounds from your joints, if that type of treatment has not been helpful for you in the past or if my exam shows that this type of adjustment is not appropriate that I will use other means to help resolve your problem(s).

When new patient's first come to our office they are often in pain and have muscle aches and spasms.  At my office, chiropractic care includes the use of hot packs, electrical muscle stimulation (sounds horrible but is actually very soothing and relaxing) and therapeutic ultrasound to help relieve pain and relax tight muscles before we attempt any chiropractic adjustments.  Once the pre-adjustment therapy is complete we will do the appropriate chiropractic adjustments being careful to keep our efforts well within your comfort zone.

Everyone responds differently to treatment.  Some patients are extremely fast healers and only require a handful of treatments while others require prolonged care that can last from weeks to months.  Either way, we will not lead you to believe that we can perform "one treatment miracles" nor will we ever recommend treatment that is unnecessary.

Since most conditions that we treat involve inflammation of the joints, most likely you will be advised to use ice for at home therapy.  Your at home therapy will also likely include specific stretches and exercises that will bring stability to the injured area and improve the balance of your body helping to prevent further episodes of the same injury.  We believe that our healthiest patients are the ones that play an active role in their recovery.

In a nut shell, this is our treatment philosophy and it what you can expect from care at my office.
