Neck Pain Causes, Neck Pain Treatment
Neck pain can be disabling. Neck pain is often accompanied by stiffness in the neck and sometimes pain that radiates down your arms or into that area between your shoulder blades. Neck pain can make you lose sleep, lose your patience and distract you from your normal activities of daily living. In some cases, neck pain can cause disability and in some cases loss of your employment. There are many causes of neck pain. Auto accidents are notorious for causing neck pain. Other causes include bad posture, stress, sports injuries and falls. Of all the causes of neck pain that I see in my office the most common of them all is bad posture. Many cases of bad posture are encouraged by computer use, texting, driving and watching television. Common sources of neck pain include the facet joints in the neck that allow and guide the movement between the individual vertebra of the spine and the discs which act as the shock absorbers of your spine. In some cases the disc can become injured resulting in a herniation of the disc that puts pressure on one of the many nerves that exits between the vertebra.
Treatment for neck pain requires a multifaceted approach. In my office we treat the underlying biomechanical issues that cause neck pain. Chiropractic adjustments improve joint range of motion by gently breaking down scar tissue and stretching tight muscles. In addition to chiropractic treatment for neck pain we also provide you with specific stretches and exercises to help balance and stabilize your neck and upper back. Stretches and exercises are critical for the numerous muscles and ligaments that move and support your neck. The stretches and exercises are necessary in order to help your body's balance and prevent future problems from occuring.
Finally, with your help, we will help identify the contributing causes of your neck pain and help you figure ways to avoid them. Regardless of the casuses of neck pain, we can almost always improve your situation with a personalized treatment program. If you are motivated, neck pain can become a thing of the past!
